[Introduced March 13, 2001; referred to the
Committee on Rules.]
Designating Tuesday, March 13, two thousand one, as "Stand Up for
Steel" day.
Whereas, The illegal dumping and subsidizing of foreign steel
in our nation's steel industry have cost thousands of steelworkers
their jobs in the United States; and
Whereas, America has prided itself on its ability to fairly
participate in the global marketplace. However, the illegal
dumping of foreign steel at reduced prices has caused financial
chaos within the American steel industry; and
Whereas, The matter of illegal dumping of foreign steel in the
United States remains a major matter of contention in our steel
industry, although progress has been made by the efforts of our
steelworkers and legislatures across the nation; and
Whereas, As in the past, all West Virginians are urged to rise
to the cause for the industry that has built this great nation; and
Whereas, The continued vigilance of our federal legislators, and the new President of the United States, and his new
administration gain a thorough understanding of the impact that the
illegal dumping and subsidizing of foreign steel are having on
America's steel industry, and that they seek to ensure the
enforcement of our nation's trade laws; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates hereby designates March 13, two
thousand one, as "Stand Up for Steel" day at the House of Delegates
and calls upon all West Virginians to maintain a vigilance to

a copy of this resolution to the President of the United States,
