Designating Tuesday, March 13, two thousand one, as "Stand Up for Steel" day.

Whereas, The illegal dumping and subsidizing of foreign steel in our nation's steel industry have cost thousands of steelworkers their jobs in the United States; and
Whereas, America has prided itself on its ability to fairly participate in the global marketplace. However, the illegal dumping of foreign steel at reduced prices has caused financial chaos within the American steel industry; and
Whereas, The matter of illegal dumping of foreign steel in the United States remains a major matter of contention in our steel industry, although progress has been made by the efforts of our steelworkers and legislatures across the nation; and
Whereas, As in the past, all West Virginians are urged to rise to the cause for the industry that has built this great nation; and
Whereas, The continued vigilance of our federal legislators, and the new President of the United States, and his new administration gain a thorough understanding of the impact that the illegal dumping and subsidizing of foreign steel are having on America's steel industry, and that they seek to ensure the enforcement of our nation's trade laws; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates hereby designates March 13, two thousand one, as "Stand Up for Steel" day at the House of Delegates and calls upon all West Virginians to maintain a vigilance to ensure that the trade laws of our nation are enforced and the illegal dumping of foreign steel in our country is eliminated; and be it
Further Resolved, That our nation's leaders are called upon to be vigilant of United States trade laws and to ensure that they are enforced so that the practices of illegal dumping and subsidizing of foreign steel in our nation are eliminated; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the President of the United States, the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives.
